About me

I’m Oana Bogzaru, I am based in Surrey, UK, and whyQUIESCENCE is where different parts of me learn to coexist and work together.

A part of me belongs to the fascinating art of performing and entertaining; another part longs to dive deep into the psyche and learn the mind’s structures and processes. Astrology brings all these together to serve a greater purpose: to help other people find their meaning.

I believe that, although meaning is ever-evolving, the core stays the same. Throughout the chapters in our lives, we engage in various projects, journeys, and relationships; however, if meaning is lacking, our endeavours will fail to bring a sense of fulfilment.

Finding your meaning is not the equivalent of being successful

I experienced the immense void and fear after great dreams come true. Dreams that somehow did not serve my needs well. “Why am I here?” and “What am I supposed to do with my life?” were obsessive questions since I was 7 or 8 years old. On the journey to find my meaning, astrology always came up in the most unexpected ways and places. During a history or a cinematography class, in a therapy session, in my family history. A few years ago, I decided to take it seriously, and it proved that it has the power to bring to the surface whatever we forget we long for.

What is the meaning of whyQUIESCENCE?

Quiescence stems from the Latin quiescere, which means “a state or quality of being inactive” or “to rest”. Its meaning ranges from a zen or sublime state of quietness to a non-dormant seed that awaits the right, favourable conditions to start growing. It’s a temporary tender state that is protective, necessary and promising of a latent potential. There are moments in life when we retract into our shells to rethink, go deeper and re-establish our values. I call them quiescence moments. Just like in biology, the ability of stem cells to go in and out of quiescence states is necessary for homeostasis and regeneration. Astrology is a mesmerising tool that symbolically can identify such periods in life of tremendous potential. In a fast-forward world, stillness and quietness are non-productive qualities. I am interested in what allows us to do the inner search and stay curious about who we are once we come out through the other side—hence the “why”– the simplest expression of genuine curiosity and relentless questioning.

About my astrology practice

I practice Western tropical astrology and mainly traditional (Hellenistic & Medieval) astrology, complemented by psychological elements from modern astrology. In technical terms, I use the whole sign houses, traditional rulership, essential dignity and the five Ptolemaic aspects.

My understanding and use of astrology are highly grounded and mindful. I am acutely aware of how sensitive and deeply personal some topics can be; therefore, I strongly rely on counselling skills and solid ethics in my practice, ensuring my clients feel comfortable sharing their stories.

My credentials

I started my formal training as an astrologer at MISPA in the UK. However, after two terms, I realised I was falling in love with traditional astrology and am currently enrolled in Kelly Surtees’ Astrologer Training Program. Additionally, I am also learning from her many classes on specific topics. I am constantly improving my knowledge and skills by taking courses from various reputable astrologers; however, my main influences are Kelly Surtees and Demetra George’s teachings.

Integrity and ensuring a safe environment for my clients are paramount in my practice. Part of my continual development is to pursue recognised courses in Counselling Skills. I also hold a Level 2 and Level 3 NCFE CACHE Diploma in Counselling Skills.

Other qualifications

My initial journey started in Romania, in the academic field. I hold a BA and MA in Theatre Studies, Cultural Marketing and Journalism. I also started a PhD programme with the thesis Ritual Theatre; however, after a year, I moved countries and have lived in the UK since.

I previously worked as a theatre critic and a university teaching assistant, in marketing & communication roles and for a publishing house.
